Subject Description | The objectives of this subject are to acquaint the student with basic microbiological and biochemical concepts essential to the understanding of biochemical engineering and environmental engineering processes, including structure and function of biological macromolecules; biochemical pathways; genetics and cellular control processes; cell structure and function; microbial diversity and survey of microbial groups; methods for characterisation, cultivation and enumeration of microorganisms; and survey of applications in biochemical and environmental engineering. |
Assessment | An examination of not more than three hours contributing 90% to the final assessment and practical reports not exceeding 1000 words contributing 10% to the final assessment |
