Subject Description | This subject introduces students to the main aspects of business systems development. It focuses on the main types of information systems employed in business organisations. In particular, it discusses the managerial view of data, information and knowledge; the central role of database systems in business systems; data modelling for relational and object-oriented databases; requirements identification; the specification and design of business systems; systems development methodologies including the unified development process (UDP); computer aided software engineering (CASE); and prototyping including RAD. |
Assessment | A 3-hour end-of-semester examination (70%) and computer-oriented assignments (30%). |
