166-023 Issues in American Foreign Policy

Contact	Thirty contact hours per semester. Two 1-hour lectures per week for 10 weeks and a 1-hour tutorial per week for 10 weeks. The lecture and tutorial programs are staggered and cover the 12 weeks of semester
Subject Description	This subject is an introduction to American foreign policy in the post-Cold War period with some reference also to the domestic context of foreign policy. On completion of the subject students should have an introductory understanding of the way in which foreign policy decisions are made in the United States; and an appreciation of the important role that the United States plays in international affairs as the only remaining superpower.
Assessment	Written work totalling 4000 words
