Two 1-hour lectures per week for the first 11 weeks and a 1-hour tutorial per week beginning the third week of semester

Subject Description

This subject examines contemporary work on the philosophical foundations of political liberalism, understood broadly to include concern with issues of justice in matters of wealth and social stratification, as well as issues of freedom. Special attention will be paid to the writings of the American philosopher John Rawls.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words, plus regular participation in tutorials.
