Completion of Japanese 1B or equivalent. New students who have had some prior experience with the language may not enrol unless they have taken a placement test in the week preceding the first week of semester.

Subject Description

This subject consolidates students' Japanese knowledge and enables them to communicate in Japanese using an appropriate politeness level and styles. Various styles of reading materials will be introduced. Students will learn a further 150 kanji (Chinese characters). Students are also introduced to various aspects of Japanese culture. Their Japanese acquisition will be assisted by independent learning in computer-assisted language learning or language laboratory use.

Assessment

A 2-hour final examination (2000 words), a project (1600 words), and quizzes, oral and aural tests totalling 4400 words.
