The subject is only available at second year for students who have completed 110-161 Chinese 1B or 110-040 Standard Chinese 2B.

110-029 Introductory Chinese 2B, 110-161 Chinese 1B or 110-040 Standard Chinese 2B.

This is a third-year level in-country language subject, to be held at a university in China in Semester 1. The subject provides an in-country alternative to third-year language study in Chinese for well-qualified students. Both in terms of total contact hours and language learning, this subject is the equivalent of a full year on campus at Melbourne, and a pass in this subject will qualify students for entry to appropriate fourth-year language subjects. Subject components will cover all aspects of third-year language work, including listening comprehension, advanced oral work, composition, and readings in modern and pre-modern Chinese. Assessment will be conducted in part by host university staff (continuous assessment) and by staff of the Chinese program after students return.

Four 1-hour examinations, a 30-minute listening comprehension test, a 20-minute oral test (conducted in Melbourne); and assignments and/or tests totalling 5000 words, and class participation (conducted in China).
