Subject Description

This subject continues the introduction to Biblical Hebrew begun in Semester 1. It covers further elements of grammar and vocabulary and consolidates translation skills by focusing on the Book of Ruth. On completion of the subject students should be able to translate basic prose texts of the Hebrew Bible; have mastered about 500 basic words in Biblical Hebrew; be able to read the Hebrew script well; and be able to discuss elementary points of grammar and textual criticism.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words, comprising weekly exercises and vocabulary tests, two 150 word papers on grammatical and translational aspects of a text and a 2-hour examination.
