Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to enable students to develop skills and knowledge in relation to investment and finance as they apply in the agriculture/farm business.

The content includes:

  • investment concepts (growth, income, gearing - investment decisions under risk and uncertainty), contracts, marketing strategies, diversification, insurance, futures;

  • ownership and acquisition;

  • alternatives to land ownership;

  • investment finance;

  • rural valuation principles;

  • rural land purchases; and

  • outside enterprise investment.

Assessment

Internal students: two assignments of 2000 words (60%) and a 3-hour test (40%). External students: two assignments of 3000 words each (100%).
