Subject Description

The objective of the subject is to ascertain if the student has met the objectives of the course, based on the following five attributes regarded by industry as important in graduates:

  • the ability to solve problems relevant to agriculture and communicate solutions effectively to people in industry;

  • an understanding of the practical realities of systems management through experience;

  • the ability to integrate the contribution of sciences, financial and economic analysis, and human resources in the management of agricultural systems;

  • the possession of specialist skills in an area of agriculture whilst retaining an appreciation of the whole of an agricultural system and its context; and

  • the ability to approach problems in the agricultural sector as a self-directed, adaptable, and inquiring professional.

The content includes review of material covered during the course, contemporary issues in agriculture, understanding of agricultural systems from the farm level to the global level, and relevance to the agricultural industry of study undertaken.

Assessment

On the basis of a 45-minute interview with an industry-based panel (100%). The panel decides whether the candidate has fulfilled all requirements for course completion and recommends a grade. The panel may recommend a supplementary interview or other actions if it is not satisfied that the candidate has met the course requirements.
