Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to enable students to gain knowledge of:

  • the ecology and productivity of natural waters and the hydrological cycle; and

  • nutrient cycling processes of waters and sediments and the human impact of these processes.

The content includes physical and chemical characteristics and processes occurring in natural waters; chemical profile of natural waters; nutrient cycling and biological processes in waters and sediments; primary and secondary production, measurement and estimation; and entrophication and pollution processes.

Assessment

2-hour examination (60%); project report of 3000 words (40%).
