791-058 Pest Animal Management

Animal Biology, Aust. Ecosystems I, Resource Management Policy and Planning; or equivalent.

On completion of this subject students will be able to:

• have a knowledge of the biology and ecology of a range of pest animals;

• understand the legislative requirements for pest animal management on private and public land in Victoria;

• understand the principles of pest animal management including the appropriate use of biological, chemical, and mechanical control measures; and

• develop a pest animal management plan.

The content includes the economic and environmental significance of the common pest animals within agricultural and natural environments. Students will be required to understand the range of management strategies that can be used in pest animal control. Students will also be required to prepare a pest animal management plan for a farm, private property or a protected area.

Assignments (including the production of a pest animal management plan) and practical work.
