Subject Description | The objectives are to identify the fauna and flora which occur in Australian aquatic systems; understand and apply procedures for monitoring water quality; carry out water monitoring project; and be aware of the importance of key species in the fisheries industry. The content includes radiation and adaptations of different animal and plant groups in freshwater and marine environments; procedures of biomonitoring using benthic macroinvertebrates; methods for assessing water quality; methods for sampling aquatic vertebrate species; and the importance of native fish and crustacean species in Australian fisheries. Students will be required to design and carry out a biomonitoring project. |
