Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to:

  • enhance students' knowledge of remnant vegetation in south-eastern Australia;

  • examine the impacts of management on remnant vegetation; and

  • examine the techniques to be employed in the restoration of ecosystems, and habitat in particular.

The content includes remnant vegetation in south-eastern Australia; management impacts on remnant vegetation; conservation and management of rare and endangered flora and fauna; habitat corridors and network connectivity; island biogeography; revegetation techniques; weed eradication and feral animal control methodology in restoration; and habitat enhancement techniques and other restoration methods.

Assessment

2-hour theory examination (35%); 2-hour practical examination (25%); one assignment of 2000 words (40%).
