Subject Description | Topics covered include an overview of musical works and ideas in the West up to 1750 and an introduction to the music cultures beyond; and critical and research methods basic to the scholarly study of music. Representative works of the major periods are introduced in their social contexts. |
Assessment | Regular listening tests (20%); written projects to a total of 2000 words (20%);end-of-semester 3-hour examination (60%). |
