Subject Description

Topics may include, but are not restricted to the following: database administration; advanced data modelling (focusing on relational but possibly including network, hierarchical and object oriented); relational database issues (query processing, and optimisation); data management; and database application development. This subject may include heavy involvement from one of the department's industry partners.

At the completion of this subject, students should:

  • have an in-depth knowledge of the relational database model;

  • be able to manage databases efficiently; and

  • be able to build moderately complex database applications and SQL queries.

Assessment

A 3-hour end-of-semester written examination and assigned project work expected to average 8 hours per week. Weighting of the assessment components will be announced at the commencement of the subject.
