Subject Description

A study of the scope and nature of teaching and learning in health and physical education for children from preschool to CSF level 2, within a health promoting school/preschool environment. Curriculum issues and planning will be addressed and units of work developed from the various strands of the CSF. Seminars and practical sessions will focus on teaching and learning strategies and resources in such areas as nutrition education, traffic safety education, swimming and water safety, gymnastics, games and ball handling, human development, human relations and sexuality. Relevant current educational initiatives will be examined. e.g. drug education, mental health and anti-bullying programs and child protection. A brief overview of the Key Learning Area- Health & Physical Education for CSF levels 3&4.
