Subject Description

This subject focuses on multiple facets in the overall professional practices of teachers. Issues explored include teachers as curriculum designers, implementers and evaluators; and as managers and facilitators of student learning.

Topics include critical examination of current innovations, theories, policies and practices in curriculum, assessment and pedagogy, e.g. critiques of the construction of knowledge and school subjects; integration of learning areas into a coherent framework; difference (e.g. gender, ability, special needs, race and ethnicity) and learning; the realisation of such changes in curriculum, teaching plans and classroom practice to support meaningful and successful learning; theories and strategies for refinement and improvement of practice; teachers' work as members of the profession, and in relationship to families, groups and institutions.

Assessment

A series of assessment tasks totalling 4000 words.
