A total of 24 hours of lectures and 10 hours of tutorials over the semester. This subject will also include four 3-hour field visits

Subject Description

This subject will examine the nature and foundations of professionalism and will relate these criteria to the early childhood profession. It will provide an introduction to the responsibilities of early childhood professionals in relation to codes and standards adopted and used by the profession, e.g. the Code of Ethics and the Australian Quality Improvement and Accreditation System. This subject will also identify and discuss the wide range of children's service types in Australia. It will explore briefly the roles of a number of key players in the children's services industry. It will also include a study of the historical foundations of early childhood services in Australia with particular reference to the social, political and economic forces which have played an influence on their development.

Assessment

One assignment totalling 2000 words and a 2-hour examination.
