Contact | The equivalent of six hours per week to a maximum of 150 hours with the agency. It is anticipated that a further 20 hours will be required to set up the placement with the agency prior to commencement of the placement. Up to seven hourly seminars will be run throughout the year |
Subject Description | This subject is designed to provide students with hands-on research experience in the context of a criminal justice agency. The placement is designed as a 'mock' consultancy, not as work experience. The purpose of the subject is to expose students to the operation of various government and community-based agencies and to provide them with an opportunity to enhance their skills of observation, data collection, cooperation with others, listening, analysis, report writing and developing appropriate professional contacts in the course of research. |
Assessment | An agency report of 8000 words (practical work may be substituted for part of the written work), and reflection on the fieldwork experience of 1500 words. A 20-minute oral presentation will constitute 5% of the assessment. |
