Subject Description | This subject is an examination of sentencing law, the sentencing process, the purposes of and justifications for sentences, judicial discretion and sentencing guidelines, and the nature and effectiveness of the sentencing options available to the courts, and is an introduction to research into sentencing. As a result of this material students should understand the nature of sentencing and be able to evaluate research into the sentencing process. |
Assessment | An essay of 2000 words for 3rd year, 3000 words for 4th year, and a 2-hour exam or a take-home test equivalent to 2000 words. |
