Subject Description

This subject examines the role of language in media texts using approaches developed through the field of linguistics and applied linguistics. Topics include the relationships between aural and visual elements in media texts; non-verbal communication; media text analysis; hypertext issues; media literacy; the conduct of media research; and web site construction. Students are given training in using current multimedia technologies and present their research through on-line media.

Assessment

Participation in a collaborative project equivalent to 1000 words, an individual class presentation of 2000 words, and participation in group development of a web site and a 1000 word report.
