Subject Description

In this subject recent debates and reforms in Australian and Victorian public policy and public sector management will be analysed. Topics include welfare policy, health policy, unemployment and gender issues. Major changes in the public sector, including privatisation and contracting out of services, will be assessed. Students will be encouraged to design and evaluate policy proposals. On completion of the subject students should have an understanding of how to design policies which are socially effective, economically efficient and political feasible; have learned how to evaluate the benefits and costs of public policies and of changes in public sector management.
