Subject Description | This is an introductory subject to contemporary Chinese political history. The subject deals with questions such as, What were the factors behind the massacre of June 4th 1989? How important is Marxism now? On completion of this subject students should have an understanding of the historical forces at play in contemporary Chinese social and political life; a knowledge of the political history of the Communist Party and how that feeds in to contemporary political considerations; and an appreciation of the key dilemmas that face China as it goes forward into the new millennium. |
