Subject Description

This subject concerns non-classical logic, that is, logic that extends or critiques the more orthodox logic normally encountered in a first course in logic. Students will be introduced to some of the more important non-classical logics. Details of the semantics and proof-theories of these logics will be considered, as well as the philosophical rationales for the logics. On completion of the subject, students should have a good understanding of the technical details of the logics covered, and of philosophical debates surrounding these logics.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words, and regular participation in tutorials.
