Subject Description

This subject explores the meaning and development of key concepts such as the social construction of womanhood, equality, difference and power. The changing relationship between traditional philosophy and feminist theory is examined, and some recent feminist epistemological and ethical theories are also presented and critically analysed. On completion of the subject students should have an understanding of the debates about the nature of sexual difference and the location of sexual oppression.
