Subject Description | This subject will examine Western expansion in Asia and the Pacific islands from the 16th century to the eventual emergence of modern states in the 20th century. Particular emphasis will be placed on examining how various Asian and Pacific countries responded to the challenges that emerged from sustained contact and relations with the West. |
