126-005 Intermediate German A and 126-007 Intermediate German B or equivalent.

126-009 Intermediate German D.

This subject consists of a 1-hour lecture and a 1-hour option. Students will be introduced to important cultural, literary and linguistic aspects of the German language. Students will be given the opportunity to develop topics of interest within these general areas and will be introduced to a variety of specialist terminology within these general areas. The objectives of the area studies vary according to the options chosen. Students should achieve the level of competency required for admittance into 126-017 Advanced German 2 (Core) A and 126-015 Advanced German 2B. If proceeding to German at third year level, students should achieve the level of competency required for admittance into 126-006 German 3 Intermediate (Core) A and 126-021 German 3 Intermediate B or 126-018 Advanced German 3 (Core) A and 126-019 Advanced German 3B.

Two 1-hour written exams or written work totalling 2000 words.
