Completion of first year beginners French with H2B or above in 116-003 Beginners French IC and 116-004 Beginners French ID or adequate knowledge of French (four or five years of secondary school French or equivalent).

Two hours of language classes and one hour of supervised laboratory work per week

Subject Description

This subject is designed to provide students with a systematic revision and consolidation of the basic structures of French. Classes will include work in the language laboratory, with listening activities that present structures and vocabulary in meaningful situations. The course also stresses the productive aspect of language use in practical situations while extending grammatical and lexical knowledge and refining oral skills. On completion of the subject students should be able to sustain conversations and express opinions in French on topics of general interest, have consolidated their knowledge of the basic structures of French, and have attained a reasonable level of competence in written production.

Assessment

Written work equivalent to 1200 words, an oral test equivalent to 1000 words, a listening comprehension test equivalent to 600 words, and a 1-hour written language test.
