Subject Description | This subject explores in greater depth key aspects of French civilisation and further develops language skills in their cultural context. Students choose a mini-option on either autobiography and fiction, French cultures on the web, the classical playwright Molière, the sounds and rhythms of French, translation or representations of France and Frenchness. The mini-options are taught in French in a seminar format, and are designed to allow students to pursue language study in a specific linguistic or cultural field of their choice. Regular writing activities for the options ensure development of writing skills in French in a range of genres. Tutorials in French explore civilisation topics and enhance students' ability to participate in informed discussion. The subject is particularly helpful for students wishing to pursue further studies in French and the exchange and study abroad programs offered by the department. |
Assessment | Class exercises equivalent to 1000 words, and a 1000 word essay (in French) or equivalent for mini-options. |
Prescribed Texts | Civilisations texts are included in the Livret de l'étudiant II; mini-option materials will also be prepared by the department. |
