Subject Description | This subject includes a survey of the ethnic and linguistic diversity of Indonesia in its Southeast Asian and Oceanic context. Topics include Southeast Asian prehistory, ecology and geography; language change; language variety in social organisation; ritual language and cultural classifications. Students who complete the subject should be equipped with a practical knowledge of problems and possibilities in combining linguistic and anthropological theories and methods, and their complementarity. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 4000 words for 3rd year, 5000 words for 4th year and masters students, and class participation. |
