Subject Description

This subject will develop students' skills such as proficiency in written structures of sophisticated complexity and the capacity to decode and evaluate specialist and technical language use. It will also cover a variety of issues in modern Arabic literature and literary criticism, the historical, cultural, economic and political factors that have conditioned the emergence of Arabic as an international language, as well as translation of texts of medium to high level of difficulty. Students will choose any four units from the following: speaking, writing, translation, Arabic literature, grammar, guided reading, and research methods.

Assessment

Written work totalling 1500 words, a 2-hour examination and a 15-minute aural/oral test. Fourth year students will write an additional essay of 1000 words.
