Subject Description

This subject involves a series of seminar presentations and discussions on a topic or topics of contemporary or special interest. Topics will vary from year to year, depending on current events and the availability of guest speakers. Some of the seminars in any given year will be conducted in Japanese. Please consult the Japanese Course and Subject Guide for details. Students who complete this course should gain basic note-taking skills for use in lectures conducted in Japanese; practice in implementing strategies for improving their listening comprehension; skill in précis writing; and acquire some familiarity with public or academic discourse in Japanese in a particular subject area.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words. Students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to submit assessed work.
