110-105 Japanese 3B Core and 110-106 Japanese 3B-IT or equivalent. New students who have had some prior experience with the language may not enrol unless they have taken a placement test in the week preceding the first week of semester.

Four hours of language classes per week

Subject Description

This subject covers four areas: reading comprehension, translation, composition, and oral/aural practice. Three hundred Chinese characters will be introduced. Authentic texts will be used as teaching and learning materials and classes will be conducted principally in Japanese.

Assessment

Assignments and quizzes totalling 1000 words, and a 2-hour examination, and a 20-minute oral test. Extra written work totalling 1000 words for fourth year. Students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take examinations.
