7. Extended Bachelor of Music

7. Extended Bachelor of Music

The Extended Bachelor of Music (ExtBMus) is a course of study which enables students with secondary school qualifications from China, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Sth Korea, Thailand and Taiwan to gain direct entry to the University of Melbourne.

This course is only available to international applicants who would otherwise not gain entry to the faculty based on their final year of schooling.

Students in the ExtBMus are admitted to the BMus in second year after successful completion of all requirements. The first 18 months of the course include foundation studies in music (practical, theory and history), Australian studies and English. Students can thus pursue their study of music with lessons and ensemble while completing foundation studies towards the degree.

The course structure will depend on the IELTS score achieved (see structures below). However, students who enter the Extended BMus with an IELTS of 5.5 must take the IELTS test for a score of 6.5 at the end of semester 3 in the subject Advanced English as a Second Language 2: Special Program.
