The Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching is designed for students who have completed at least 200 points in the Bachelor of Music and wish to undertake a primary or secondary teaching qualification.

For information on entry requirements, selection and course structures please refer to the relevant sections in the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching.

1. School Experience requirements

Bachelor of Teaching students complete a minimum of 45 days of supervised practice teaching in schools plus an extended internship in final year. Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching students should note that they are expected to meet their practicum commitments where these may occur in semester breaks at the same time as some music subjects are offered on an intensive basis. School placements should be negotiated with staff in the School Experience and Professional Practice Unit.

2. Semester dates

In 2002, students in year 4 of the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary and Primary) course and year 5 of the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) course begin classes in the week beginning 25 February. Students in year 5 of the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) course begin a School Experience Placement block in the week beginning 4 February.

3. Honours

Students who wish to complete the Bachelor of Teaching (Honours) within fourth and fifth year will be able to apply in the same way as all other Bachelor of Teaching students.

4. Deferral

Deferral of a place in the combined course is not available.

5. Part-time studies

Part-time studies are available in the first three years of the combined course (the music component) but not in fourth and fifth year (the BTeach component).
