Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend participant's ability to:

  • describe the functions of management and leadership;

  • describe the factors that influence and enhance individual, group and organisational behaviour, as the basis for human resource management of horticultural enterprises;

  • explain management theory and discuss its application to the management of horticultural enterprises; and

  • describe and analyse a horticultural enterprise, or parts thereof, using management theories.

The content includes the functions of management and leadership, management philosophies, organisational structures, and organisational behaviour as the basis for developing human resource management skills.

Assessment

Two assignments of 2000 words (30% each); six case studies of 400 words each or examination of two hours (40%).
