Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend participant's ability to:

  • use biological, social and historical data and information to investigate problems in horticulture;

  • design an experiment to test hypothesis;

  • analyse results obtained from an experiment to test their significance; and

  • undertake project work in conjunction with others.

The content includes the value and use of statistics, the nature of statistical investigation, the collection, presentation and interpretation of data, analysis of distribution, analysis of variance, hypothesis testing, decision making, experimental design, replications and randomisation, and experimental techniques.

Assessment

Examination of 1.5 hours (50%); group work (50%).
