Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend participant's ability to:

  • describe the systems involved in the production, organisation and operation of an efficient plant production business;

  • discuss the principles involved in the production of high quality nursery stock and cut flowers with the major production systems used for those crops;

  • describe the use of environment control in the production of nursery stock and cut flowers; and

  • describe the techniques available for plant growth modification in the nursery and cut flower industries.

The content includes plant production systems, production decisions and scheduling for nursery stock and cut flowers, plant quality and its maintenance in production, plant growth regulation, environment modification in plant production, organisation and production management of nursery and cut flower enterprises.

Assessment

2-hour examination (40%); two assignments of 2000 and 1000 words each (25% and 15%); practical reports (20%).
