Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend participant's ability to:

  • describe and analyse environmental issues relating to horticulture;

  • analyse the multi-disciplinary nature of environmental issues and their management; and

  • apply ecological concepts and management practices to assessment of major issues of conservation.

The topics described in this subject are addressed in a multi-disciplinary approach based on systems analysis and related to wild harvesting, gene pools, revegetation, pollution, soils, legislation, water, interest groups, big industry population, applied ecology and conservation, land rehabilitation and degradation.

Assessment

Essay (40%), class participation (10%), final exam (50%).
