Subject Description

In this subject, students will learn basic playing, maintenance and tuning techniques on at least one instrument from brass, woodwind or percussion families, or acquire basic skills in the application of computers for composition and notation using MIDI, synthesis and digital audio technologies; and learn the fundamentals of group teaching techniques in brass, woodwind or percussion families or teaching the principles of technology in musical skills training and audio recording. Students are not permitted to work on the same family of instruments as in earlier Group Music Skills subjects.

Assessment

Performance of 10 minutes (50%); resource folio of 2000 words (30%); composition for three to five instruments of the family under study of 3 minutes duration (20%) or for students working on the information technology option, assigned projects involving practical use of computers (80%); class presentation or short answer test (20%).
