Subject Description

Students will gain knowledge of the practice of music therapy with adult clients; a knowledge of the theoretical approaches in using music as a therapeutic medium; a comprehensive knowledge of research findings in relation to music therapy methods for adults; and an understanding of the therapeutic processes in providing treatment within the health and psychiatric areas, including rehabilitation and palliative care.

Topics to be covered include principles and processes of music therapy; theoretical basis of the use of music in therapy; the application of music therapy methods in health, psychiatry and rehabilitation clinical treatment programs; study of research literature.

Assessment

One 1500-word assignment (30%); One 3-hour examination (70%)
