Subject Description

Students are required to participate in staff-supervised Faculty ensembles as directed by the Dean. On completion of the subject, students should have developed the ability to perform sympathetically with other members of the group; be aware of the importance of individual preparation; become sensitive to the requirements of working in groups, large and small, particularly with regard to regular and punctual attendance; and have an understanding of the range of repertory available for the ensemble group of which the student is a member. Students must attend concerts that inform, complement and develop knowledge and appreciation of the ensemble they are participating in.

Assessment

• 100% punctual attendance at all rehearsals and concerts (45%) For Diploma and MUPHAS students (50%)

• An individual or sectional part audition i.e. performance of the players part prior to concert(s). (45%) For diploma and MUPHAS students (50%)

• Attendance at a minimum of five concerts as prescribed and approved by the Dean. A concert attendance report (forms are available from the faculty office) of approximately 100 words, must be submitted for each concert to the faculty office by the last day of semester (10%). Diploma in Music and MUPHAS students are exempt from this requirement.

  Note: A pass must be obtained in each section of the assessment.
