A grade of B or higher in the B Mus audition, a pass in the Faculty musicianship and aural test and a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.

Subject Description

A survey of the history of Western music from 1600 to the present. Representative works by the major composers in a variety of styles and contexts will be studied through listening and discussion. Students will develop skills in critical response to music, based on historical, analytical and aesthetic understanding.

Assessment

Regular listening tests throughout the semester (20%); written projects (30%); a 2-hour end-of-semester examination (50%)
