Subject Description | A survey of the history of Western music from 1600 to the present. Representative works by the major composers in a variety of styles and contexts will be studied through listening and discussion. Students will develop skills in critical response to music, based on historical, analytical and aesthetic understanding. |
Assessment | Regular listening tests throughout the semester (20%); written projects (30%); a 2-hour end-of-semester examination (50%) |
