Subject Description

This subject consolidates the aural and written skills essential to the study of Western music and includes a review of basic theoretical concepts, sight singing, recognition and dictation of diatonic melodies, intervals, chords and cadences, a review of rudimentary theoretical concepts, melody writing and an introduction to the writing of two and four part textures in short phrases of four bars

Assessment

Regular aural tests (20%); regular written projects (20%); end-of-semester aural test (20%) and an end-of-semester -hour written examination in music theory (40%)
