Subject Description

This subject adopts a theory-praxis approach. First, it examines the growth of Asian megacities within the context of Asia-Pacific urbanization from various theoeretical perspectives. Second, using a hands on planning approach, issues such as population, poverty, employment, social inequality and gender, colonial history, rural/urban migration, housing, environment, urban services, infrastructure and the integration of these cities into the global economy are addressed.

Assessment

One major essay of 2800 words, group project and in class exercises.
