Up to two hours of lectures and one 2-hour tutorial per week. Students are also required to independently and regularly visit project construction sites

Subject Description

Construction methods, materials and detailing commonly used in commercial factories, warehouses and office buildings up to three storeys in height. Lectures follow the construction sequence and include site establishment, footing systems, basements, ground slabs, tilt slab and precast walls, drainage, steel framing, fasteners, mezzanine floors, composite construction, facades, roof and wall cladding, roof drainage, partitions and false ceilings, windows and joinery, stairs, wet areas and services. Case studies.

Assessment

Assignments (e.g. exercises, site reports, class presentations, construction drawings), equivalent to not more than 5000 words, and one examination of two hours. Exercises may relate to work being undertaken in other subjects.
