Two hours of lectures and one 2-hour tutorial per week. Occasional timber workshop sessions are also required

Subject Description

Construction principles, materials and techniques commonly used in residential construction. Lectures follow the construction sequence include excavations, footing systems, ground slabs, brickwork, sub-floor wall and roof framing, flooring, roof coverings and drainage, windows, internal linings, fitouts, joinery, staircases, floor and wall tiling and finishes, electrical and plumbing services, external site works. Building regulations and compliance with Australian Standards.

Assessment

Assignments (e.g. exercises, site reports, class presentations, construction drawings), equivalent to not more than 5000 words, and one examination of two hours. Assignments may relate to work undertaken in other subjects.
