Subject Description

Practice: Students will undertake a report based project introducing construction practice at a domestic scale. (Students are required to independently visit a site regularly during Semester). Structures: Modes of structural action and the behaviour of materials for a range of simple structural systems. Techniques for approximating the size of structural members. Purpose of structures in buildings; taxonomy of elements of structural systems; load paths in structures; analysis and conceptual structural design.

Assessment

Assignments (report, exercises, essays, and class presentations, equivalent of 5000 words, and one examination of up to two hours (which could take the form of a class test).
