Subject Description | Students will be allocated to a paediatric clinical setting which will provide an opportunity to gain experience in paediatric physiotherapy while extending their physiotherapy knowledge and skills. Students are expected to apply knowledge gained earlier in the course, that is, an understanding of normal movement development, psychocial development and appropriate communication skills with children and families of all cultures. They will also appreciate safety issues concerning treatment of children. In the clinic there will be an opportunity to observe and practice skills related to paediatric physiotherapy, to determine the role of the paediatric physiotherapist and the interaction between other health professionals and paediatric centres. At the conclusion of the clinic, students will be expected to be able to do the following: assess a child of any age; assess and treat the child with simple conditions; determine the main problems and set appropriate goals for the child with neurodevelopmental disorder; effectively implement some treatment methods or techniques and deliver an education program for a child to continue physiotherapyat home. |
Assessment | Clinic: continuous clinical assessment (60%). Theory: case presentation (20%). Annotated bibliography (20%). Students must pass the clinical component in order to pass the subject. |
