Subject Description

Students should achieve the general objectives as listed in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy 1, and be able to demonstrate sound theoretical knowledge of a broader range of musculoskeletal conditions including complex, chronic and vertebral conditions and outpatients; ability to perform an independent assessment and differential diagnosis; ability to select and execute appropriate treatment techniques independently. They should also be able to evaluate treatment effectiveness and to modify treatment as necessary; organise and manage an appropriate workload; ability to formulate and implement appropriate long and short term goals including discharge planning. Ability to perform the role of a physiotherapist in multidisciplinary clinical settings; ability to apply the above principles to patients in a primary contact environment should also be achieved.

Assessment

Practical continuous clinical assessment (50%), case presentation (10%) and final theory 2-hour written exam at end of year (40%). Students must pass both clinical and theoretical components of the assessment in order to pass the subject.
